In the current things within Whittle Well, artificial limbs are at the very first level of development. At the moment and in the current state of things the limbs and organs are fairly limited in movement and ability and can be a little too heavy. They are not very stylised at the moment. However the technology is improving in leaps and bounds and it is a combination of clockwork mechanisms, wind up movements and engineering and miniaturised engine parts that work on steam.
The limbs require winding up and steam being pumped in to the system regularly. But the technology is not a cheap thing to acquire. If you do not have the cash the only way you will get a mechanical limb is by volunteering to have an experimental one fixed.
The limbs however can be of a bonus as they are very strong and robust, so any activity requiring heavy lifting can be helped with such limbs.
Some people have actually willingly had their limbs amputated to be given a mechanical one, mainly soldiers and anyone looking for trouble. | | Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 | | 9:45 pm |

"If a universe can be imagined, it exits." Professor M.R.Franks, Member, Royal Astronomical Society of Canada
A revolution has recently taken place within society’s attitude towards certain laws and civil rights. This transformation has left many traditionalists scared and fighting but most have been liberated due to the changes and are keen to allow them to continue. Mainly the rights for women and children have altered drastically. The change to female rights is almost immediately noticeable with the change of fashion. Medical and scientific understanding has improved and the experimentation for artificial limb use and ‘upgrades’ to the physical being are becoming highly fashionable however extremely costly.
Whittlewell is the capital city of the British Empire and is on the cutting edge of the steam revolution. Its advances in air ship travel and compact innovations for steam capability are the envy of the world and have lead to the boon in wealth. However the gap between rich and poor is ever expanding.
The year is 1865 and you are invited to come and join us. Whittle Well RPWe are now open and currently accepting applications! So if you are interested in a victorian, steampunk-esk RPG come take a look! | | Sunday, October 11th, 2009 | | 9:21 pm |

Rules! rules No Modding. This is when one of the following issues are committed: - Posting your enemies damage that you did for them - Avoiding/Dodging every hit or taking little damage that isn't belieavable - Exceeding your characters capabilities - controlling the reactions of opposing characters - assuming that you scored a hit - gaining a terrain advantage that isn't possible with the current terrain - Stick to your own character. Unless someone gives you permission you are not to use another person's character. No killing them, doing actions, or speaking for them.
- Keep the role playing as believable as possible. We're not gods here and if you do something that is not believable for your character you will hear about it. Everyone has weaknesses so don't act like your characters don't.
- Everyone can reply to continue the storyline, or start another post. Side RPing can be done through messenger services or gdocs and such and posted as a log relating to the character or done in the post/comment method on the board. If you feel you've nothing to post or no one is replying to your threads let us know! We'll come up with something for you to do! We don't want anyone falling behind.
- Posting. You must post at least every few days, though it is preferred if you post everyday. If you do not post in either your journal or the community for two weeks your character(s) will be removed. Be sure to let us know if you're going to be gone for holiday or something so this does not happen. If there is already a topic active for a certain thing do not start a new one for this clutters things up. Avoid "studder" posting. Studder posting are multiple posts with little information in them, which occur before anyone else has the chance to further the plot.
- Please try and avoid as many spelling mistakes and typos as possible. There's such a thing as spell check. Use it. Type in 3rd person form!
- Mods are not responsible for what occurs in every single thread on the community. If something happens that upsets others, or is against the rules bring it to our attention so it can be dealt with. If you wish to do a thread you can advertise it in the OOC community here: OOC Community Chat and Announcements can also be done here. Any thread that will have a major impact on life in the game setting it has to be cleared by the moderators first before hand. Try to have a plot for your character and future plans or talk with the other players to come up with ideas. This will give the game major plots and for all more interest not to mention give you something to do with your character as well as entries.
-No Racial, Sexual, or otherwise demeaning talk unless it is part of the story and approved by the recipient. Even if, if anything is found too offensive, i.e. multiple uses of the word or inappropriate uses will result in Punishment. Harassment of any kind will result in immediate banishment.
- All sexual content needs to come with a warning and friend lock it please. All types of relationships (straight, guy, bi, threesomes, etc) are welcome but if they become all you seem to play out or what your plot consists of then you will be warned once, followed by being kicked out if the problem consist. Sex is good and all but don't make it the everything you‘re about.
-No more than 5 characters per player to begin with. If you want more than ask the Mods and we will consider it based on your current activity and characters. You must show that you could handle more characters though for us to consider you being allowed more.
-No disrespecting Moderators or other players. Moderators control the entire board and all threads there in. Any unjust disrespect to the rules of the game or players will be punished.
-You do not need a seperate journal for each character if you do not wish to, but you must post up all character bios in the journal(s) so it's easy to read for other players.
-But most importantly, it’s just a game, it’s for fun. Relax and enjoy. | | Friday, October 2nd, 2009 | | 7:52 pm |

Places of Interest Little Hill Park A small park with a boat lake in the centre is nestled amongst the more wealthy households of Whittlewell.
The District This is the hub of retail in the city, it is where the main shopping area is.
Howarth Slough The roughest dankest nastiest part of the city.
Grave Yard Various graveyard’s are scattered about the city.
Ship Yard This is the dockyard in Whittlewell, it’s close to Howarth Slough and is used for a lot of smuggling.
River There are two rivers in Whittlewell. The River Timber and the River Howarth.
Canals There are a number of canals connecting all parts of the city.
Three Point Island Is a small island in the middle of the River Timber that has a little church in the middle, there are a lot of myths and stories surrounding this church with three bell towers.
City Hall Is where Parliament is held and where the Mayor works from.
Opera House The brand new and shiny Opera house!
Race Course The race course is slightly outside the city, it’s a very fashionable place to be.
Grey Hound Track The grey hound track is nestled in Howarth Slough. It’s a working mans sport.
Museum The Museum has free open days on a Wednesday and a Friday. Otherwise you pay to get to see the rarer and more interesting exhibitions. A number of lectures and teaching goes on here.
Library The library is open to the public on a Tuesday, otherwise you have to arrange for permission to visit and look through the great tomes and bound books.
Town Court This is where you go doooown!! If you’ve been bad or not...
Duck Grove This is a little island further down the river from Three Point Island. There’s an Oriental style bridge that leads you across it, on the Island is a really great Oriental Restaurant and tiny China town.
College and Universities Whittlewell has a few Universities that specialise in different subjects.
Hospital There are three hospitals in Whittlewell. One is a private hospital all the rich folk use. The other two are for everyone else.
Mental Health Institute The Crazies!!
Train Station There are five different stations in Whittlewell.
Scrap Yard The Scrap yard is so called because it is where a number of few inventors and scientists work out of from. Its outside the city in case of any more explosions.
Military School Lots of soldiers pass through here! Lots of sailors too…
Zoo It isn’t a big zoo and unfortunately the standards are not particularly great for the animals themselves. They are mostly exhibitions. But it is the closest people get to discovering natural history.
Air Tower The air tower just means that the two airships that operate out of the city do not need to land, it saves on space for docking. People get off at the top of the tower and take a lift down to the bottom floor.
Clock Tower Is in the main square of Whittlewell and is where all the speeches and festivals take place. The tower is a larger style of the Swiss Clock where two life size brass people come out. A man and a woman. It is wonderfully ornate and is the pride of the city.
The Palace A new Palace has been built to move the King in to the new Capital for the Empire. | | 7:28 pm |
The following is a brief history of the events surrounding Whittlewell and recent changes. The links are not a difinitive representation of what takes place in Whittewell but are good as a basis for understanding. Current Monarch Queen Victoria has passed away from an ‘illness’ that took her and her husband Prince Albert. This left her eldest son to take the throne. However a successful assignation attempt conveniently put the young and inexperienced and rather unsuitable Prince Albert, Duke of Clarence on the throne. - Prince Albert
King Albert is a party King who has very little idea of responsibility. He is unmarried and as of yet has no legitimate heir to the throne.
Laws Recent changes to Factory and Working Laws have taken place in order to create higher standards and better working conditions for all workers. However wages and pay has not increased noticeably and many factory owners try to deny their workers their rights. - Factory Act
The Buggery Act has been lifted making homosexuality now legal and not punishable by imprisonment. However the police have become rather skilled in finding other felonies gay men can be charged for in order to get rid of them - Buggery Act
Changes to womens rights and attitudes. Women have more freedom over jobs they are able to take on. However they must be befitting to a lady still. - Women and Victorian Law
Early century laws have led to the abolition of the slave trade leading. This has lead to a change in the attitude for most citizens however there are a few who still do not believe that they deserve the rights they have now. - Abolition of the Slave Trade
Fashion Changes to fashion attitudes. This mainly has affected women leading to the allowance of wearing long pants under certain conditions. However the length of skirt and dress has not altered. Showing off the legs is still highly unacceptable. But hoop skirts have been phased out as high fashion. - Application Form
Artificial limbs A new compact use of steam has meant that mechanical limbs have been developed. They are very bulky and do not look like real limbs at the moment, however the technology is there to be improved upon. - Idea for limbs
Airships Air travel has become a highly fashionable yet is still an un-trusted form of travel. It is still a dangerous mode of transport and is out priced for many to try. - Airships
Steampunk
- Steampunk

- A little bit more
- Victoan era
- Neo-Victorian
